Rolf Zinne
CFO of BASF Ukraine,
Head of BASF SE Representative Office in Georgia (Germany)
Module: Practical Finance for Executives: An Introduction to Finance Function
WORK EXPERIENCE
BASF SE, Germany:

Head of PMO Finance
Global Finance Transformation, Head of Book-to-Report

BASF Italia, Italy Controller

BASF Generics, Germany CFO

Knoll AG, Switzerland CFO
about
Rolf is 33 years with BASF group. BASF creates chemistry for a sustainable future. He came after extensive sales experience and international business studies. Looking for a truly international career, BASF was the best partner.

Starting in BASF Pharma, Rolf gained experience in controlling overseas subsidiaries in Latin America. Particularly the experience in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico was valuable. The target was to be successful in a high inflation and high currency devaluation environment, what BASF managed to achieve.

During his time in Management Accounting product costing became not only a valuable skill but more the question "how to consolidate costs and results for product decisions over a chain of several production sites?". The development of respective IT tools is particularly well developed in BASF.

In Switzerland the the focus was on producing chemicals with competitive cost and making the site efficient. Using Swiss tax advantages and a holding structure are of course a part of it. The other part was introducing a certified quality system and building up a supplier valuation system.

Being CFO in an American joint venture in the pharmaceutical generics business startup brought valuable cross-border implementation experiences.

While Controller for Italy and Greece we came from more national and separated business organizations to being transnationally organized to being efficient and

customer focused. It is merging local organizations and acquired business into one effective country business platform.

To transform BASF Finance into a truly global organization, BASF Finance and IS choose one single SAP system and one set of global accounting processes of which Rolf was responsible for the Book-to-Report processes. Later he worked with the BASF Finance president as Program Management Office to coordinate all activities for the full globalization of Finance.

In Ukraine he took over a Finance function producing immense currency losses in 2014, to convert it into a profit-making Finance function since then.
